This six-week stand-up comedy class is open to anyone in recovery who wants to explore their creativity, build confidence, and maybe even find a new way to laugh at life. Whether you’ve always wanted to try stand-up or just want a fun, supportive environment to stretch yourself, this class will guide you through the fundamentals of writing and performing comedy.\

The course is taught by Joseph Huisman, a stand-up comedian and founder of Second Chance Comedy—a live show series that shines a light on recovery through humor. Joe brings a real-world, encouraging approach that makes comedy accessible, no matter your experience level.

What You’ll Learn:

Joke Structure – Learn how jokes work, from set-up to punchline.

Finding Your Voice – Tap into your personal story and unique point of view.

Editing for Laughs – Tighten your material to make every word count.

Comedy Etiquette – Understand how to navigate open mics, book shows, and work with other comics.

On-Stage Persona – Explore your delivery style and what makes your presence stand out.

Performance Practice – Use a mic and speaker setup each week to get comfortable on stage.

Final Showcase:

At the end of the six weeks, students will perform a short set at a live showcase event. Friends, family, and community members will be welcome to attend.

This is a space to grow, connect, and explore comedy in a supportive environment with others who understand the journey.

Spots are limited to 12 participants, so early registration is encouraged. Applications can be found here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdXWiMG8pCkaODU8XjJ-IMQxS20bTH2E_sZOFNbPmrTyJ0h9A/viewform
